Shortly before Max Herre went on a big tour, he and his band recorded another song at the “Colors-Studio”: “Sans Papiers”. The single was already on the album "Athens", which he published in November last year. However, the message of the song is more topical and important than ever.

The beat is gentle and the band is perfectly coordinated in the aesthetic session format that wraps songs in delicate color palettes. The soul-pop musician with a penchant for spoken texts and rap features has brought the most important song on his record back to the surface with the new recording of “Sans Papiers” (French for “without papers”). In the stanzas, he takes the perspective of a refugee and manages to make it clear in brief and with just a few words what it could be like to lead a life as an 'illegal' migrant and face the threat of deportation every day confront.

"I'm a point in the sea [...] feel like I'm going down".

To Max Herre's words comes the plaintive, heartbreaking hook from singer YONII, whose voice releases pure emotions with every single note. The heavy three-quarter time drags on and the version of the song gives a glimpse of the closed unit of the six musicians, who are each absorbed in the song for themselves.

Especially in the context of the album, the song “Sans Papiers” has a special position. “Athens” describes a musically documented road trip from Stuttgart to Athens, a city that is a place of longing for the musician. Max Herre also staged his trip in a short one documentation. However, it is precisely this route that has taken on a completely new meaning in recent years, because it is the Balkan route through which most of the refugees try to find a safe life in Europe. “Sans Papiers” makes it clear that Max Herre has dealt with his own privileges. The song shows how close and at the same time far the respective journey and the respective place of longing lie to each other and that ultimately it is the passport that makes the difference between these two terms.

"I have no name, call me Sans Papiers".
