When, if not now? The Bundestag election will take place next Sunday and rarely has an election year been so exciting, important and forward-looking as this one. With the floods in North Rhine-Westphalia, the climate crisis has now shown its ugly face so clearly for the first time in Germany that even the deniers should run out of arguments. Nevertheless, many people seem to be of the conviction that they do not want or need to do anything about it.
There is so much that can be done about it. Be it adapting your own way of life and keeping your own ecological footprint as small as possible or choosing wisely. While all parties somehow have the climate on their radar and make promises for the future, we have every reason to believe that most will only stick to one promise. If we look at the politics of the last 16 years, there would have been enough time to really get climate protection rolling. But now we are still there with the urgent 1.5 ° target in mind, while the current election campaign is more about scandals than facts.
The situation is serious
So it is time again for musicians to take matters into their own hands and ask them to make the right choice. The announcement has seldom been as clear as this year. This time green, the doctors wrote an open letter under the hashtag #, calling for the election of Annalena Baerbock and explaining in detail why we have no other option. Numerous other musicians, authors and other people from the public join this direct invitation: Bayuk, Balbina, Frank Schätzing, Wolfgang Niedecken, Maike Rosa Vogel, Kersty and Sandra Grether, Judith Holofernes, Selig, Sven Regener, Jakob Ilja , Richard Pappik, Tiefschwarz, Kat Menschik, Gorilla Club, Fatoni, Lina Maly, Das Paradies, Talking To Turtles, Deniz & Ove, Stefanie Wardrobe, Max Prosa, Locas in Love, Francesco Wilking, Patrick Reising, Benedikt Reising, Feline Lang, Safi, Berend Intelmann, Parka Sound, Regina Schilling, Adriana Altaras, Leander Haußmann, Steffi Kühnert, Milan Peschel, Moritz Rinke, Bela B.
Now some of these creative minds have also got together and together they breathed new life into the Rio Reiser song “When if not now”. Initiated by Bela B., Francesco Wilking, Rocko Schamoni and Jan Plewka, Judith Holofernes, Lina Maly, Saskia Lavaux, Moritz Krämer, Alin Coen, Bonaparte, Clueso and Enno Bunger show faces. The latter has also prepared a small piece for election in which he takes on the current election promises of the CDU, FDP or SPD in a wonderfully sarcastic manner. Does it help?
On September 26th is federal election. Go to vote.
